Online Counseling FAQ

If you’ve never had a therapy session before, it can be hard to understand the logistics of a counseling session and how it can benefit you. Although everyone’s mental health journey is unique, most people have the same questions about online counseling. At Convenient Colorado Counseling, I want you to feel like you have all the resources you need, so I’ve answered some of the most common questions surrounding counseling and, more specifically, online counseling. Hopefully, these will help you understand how we can work together to help you heal.

While having a support system at home that you can talk to is fantastic, a professional has the training and experience that a family member or friend lacks. As a professional counselor, I can teach you new skills, help you approach situations strategically, provide an outside perspective, listen to your experiences without judgment, and offer confidentiality.

Each person is unique, and everyone will have different goals for therapy. Once we discuss your goals, I will cater our approach to your needs. I incorporate collaborative therapy approaches which empower my clients to complete actionable steps in their therapy sessions. I often use DBT, CBT, or CAMS therapy methods.

Again, there isn’t an exact answer because everyone’s healing journey looks different. The amount of time that we’ll work together depends on your current situation, your personal development goals, your commitment to your healing, and the factors that led you here in the first place. However, if we’re working through a CAMS treatment method, it takes an average of 12 sessions to feel stable again.

Online therapists, social workers, and other mental health professionals treat many mental health illnesses with online counseling. Most of the people I work with are dealing with suicidal ideations or self-harming behaviors. I also treat eating disorders, bipolar disorders, and mood disorders.

No, only psychiatrists can prescribe psychiatric medication. However, I frequently work with and can connect you to psychiatrists in the community who can provide medication referrals.

Yes, of course! Logging into your sessions is pretty straightforward, but I am more than happy to walk you through any directions you need.

Yes, I help people anywhere from ages 12 and up.

Mental health services are not a one-size-fits-all situation. So, while one type of therapy may work for you, another may not. During our first counseling session, we can explore what you want help with and determine if my services are a good fit for you. If at any time, you feel you may benefit more from a different form of counseling, I would be happy to help you explore your options.
